Eoin is a leading Counsellor/Psychotherapist and lecturer/trainer, who has worked in the area of mental health for over 30 years, specialising in a Case Formulation approach to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (see eoinstephens.com). He is particularly known for his work in the field of behavioural addiction, especially sexual addictions. Eoin is currently focusing a lot of his attention on understanding how Autism-Informed Therapy could address the specific therapeutic needs of autistic adults (see autisminformedtherapy.com).
He lectured for nearly 20 years at PCI College (www.pcicollege.ie), where he held the position of College President, and is co-founder of Dual Diagnosis Ireland (www.dualdiagnosis.ie) and Neurodiversity Ireland (www.neurodiversity.ie). Eoin has served as Vice-Chair of both the Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and Addiction Counsellors of Ireland, and was awarded the IACP Carl Berkeley Memorial Award in 2010for his contributions to the field of Counselling & Psychotherapy in Ireland.
His work is influenced by a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centred Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, & Schema Therapy. Being autistically-minded, he is a lifelong learner, & constantly informs his work from perspectives he finds useful, especially aspects of Cognitive Science (Cognitive Psychology, Evolutionary Theory, Neuroscience, Philosophy of Mind, Anthropology). Evolution-Informed Therapy, in particular, is something he sees as very valuable.
